Learning through change

Connect training to the work people need to do.

Begin with tasks

A training plan should follow the responsibilities people will carry after the change. Identify the tasks, the decisions involved and the knowledge needed to perform them. This makes learning relevant.

Give room for practice

Explanation alone is rarely enough. Practical situations help people connect a new process or system to their daily work. Create opportunities to ask questions and recognise where further support is needed.

Support the transition

Learning continues after introduction. Give the team clear ownership for questions, maintain useful guidance and review feedback from the people doing the work.
